Benches built for
the hours nobody counts.
Benches, built one slab at a time. Entry benches, dining benches, and a mudroom bench cabinet. Every one cut, carved, and joined to be sat on every day and kept for decades.

How seating is made here.
Chapter 01 of 04
01
Built to be sat in daily
Wedged-tenon legs and carved seats shaped to a person, not a mold. These are chairs for long dinners and longer conversations, tested by the makers' own families first.
Wedged tenons · carved seats
02
Solid timber, end to end
No plywood box under any of it. Legs are wedged into the seat with tenons you can see, so a bench can be tightened up in fifty years instead of replaced in five.
Wedged tenons · no hidden plywood
03
Storage where you sit
The mudroom bench hides a ventilated cabinet under a lift-up seat: boots below, gloves in the drawer, coats on optional hooks above. Entry clutter, handled in one piece.
Lift-up seat · ventilated cubbies
04
The sit test
Every design gets sat in for a week in the workshop before it's offered. If the founder's back doesn't approve, the design goes back to the bench. Comfort is verified, not assumed.
Workshop-tested · founder-approved

Cut from the same flitch
One tree, bench to table.
Live-edge benches are cut from the same flitch as our dining tables, so a bench and table can share the grain of a single tree. The slab keeps its natural edge; the legs are sculpted to hold it level on real floors.
- Slab matched to your table on request
- Sculpted legs with wedged-through tenons
- Any length from 36 to 96 inches
- Finished food-safe at the dining height
“The bench by the door is the first thing guests sit on and the last thing they talk about. Nobody planned that. The slab did.”

Who makes your furniture right now
Everything you see is made by the founder, one bench at a time, in Grass Valley.
That's the honest answer. Vior Woodworks is a startup, and today every piece in this collection comes off one bench: reclaimed and ethical timber, hand-cut joinery, plant-oil finishes, and a provenance card with the tree's origin written down.
The rolodex is open. As independent woodsmiths join, their names and their trees take their place here beside the founder's, with the same honesty about who made what.

What owners say.
The bench by the door is the first thing guests sit on and the last thing they talk about. Nobody planned that. The slab did.
The mudroom bench swallowed eight pairs of boots and a decade of backpacks. The lift-up seat still closes with one finger.
Six species, standard on every piece
White Oak
The workhorse
Black Walnut
Live-edge favorite
Smoked Oak
Tannin-darkened
Hard Maple
Pale and dense
American Cherry
Ages to rust
Pale Ash
Light and springy grain
Beyond these, explore endless wood species options for your custom orders. Cedar for outdoor work only, mahogany at no surcharge, and figured slabs like goby walnut by request.
Fair questions.
We narrowed the scope to what the workshop does best right now: solid-timber benches. No upholstery lines, no molded shells. Every bench is one maker, one tree, one provenance card.
Yes. Live-edge benches run 36 to 96 inches, and the mudroom bench is sized to your wall. Say the word in the configurator or on a consultation call.
The legs are fitted after the slab is flattened and the floor is considered. Wedged-through tenons let the whole piece be re-tightened decades from now instead of replaced.
The Grass Valley showroom has the full seating collection on the floor. Come sit in everything; that's what it's there for.
