A downed oak on a Sierra Nevada forest floor

About Vior Woodworks

Furniture should tell a story,
not just fill a room.

We started with a simple belief: beautiful furniture shouldn't cost the earth. So we're building the room where honest timber and independent woodsmiths meet the people looking for both.

Not a furniture store.
A showroom and consignment platform.

Vior Woodworks connects independent woodsmiths with people who care about where their furniture comes from. Every piece in our collection has a provenance: we know the maker, we know the tree, and we know the story.

Our sourcing starts with downed trees from storms, disease, or natural causes throughout the Sierra Nevada foothills. When a tree falls, we work with local arborists and landowners to reclaim the timber before it becomes mulch or firewood. What we can't source from downed trees, we get from ethical local sawmills with responsible harvesting practices.

We're proud to be based in Grass Valley, California, surrounded by the forests and communities that inspire everything we do.

Where we actually are

We're a startup.
And we're honest about it.

Right now Vior Woodworks is one founder, one workshop, and a plan. The pieces you see here are made by hand at that bench. What we're building next is the rolodex: a network of independent woodsmiths across Northern California and Oregon who make work this good and deserve a better way to sell it. If that's you, the door is open, and being early has its advantages.

  • Every current piece is made in-house by the founder
  • We're actively inviting independent woodsmiths to join
  • Founding woodsmiths get first listings, first photography, first sales
  • Same consignment terms for everyone, forever: 15% of gross sale

Wood. Nothing else, ever

From fallen trees to heirloom furniture.

01

A tree falls

Storms, disease, or natural causes take a tree down in the Sierra Nevada foothills. We hear about it from local arborists, landowners, and our own network.

02

We reclaim it

Before it becomes mulch or firewood, we recover the log and move it to a mill. What we can't source from downed trees comes from ethical local sawmills with responsible harvesting practices. No clearcuts.

03

A woodsmith shapes it

The timber goes to an independent woodsmith who reads the grain and decides what it should become. No mass production lines. One maker, one piece.

04

You learn its story

Every piece arrives with its provenance: the maker, the tree, and where it grew. Furniture should tell a story, not just fill a room.

“Good trees make good rooms. Good woodsmiths make them worth living in.”

What owners say.

The live-edge table is the first thing guests ask about. You can read the whole tree in it, and the founder walked us through exactly where it grew.

Our dog destroyed two big-box crates before this. The kennel looks like furniture, smells like cedar-free oak, and she actually chooses to sleep in it.
Marcus Yang · K01 Kennel, Large · Grass Valley
We furnished the tasting room with eight pieces from four different makers. Consistent quality, consistent story, zero shipping drama.
Aubrey Cole · Willow Creek Vineyards · Hospitality client
The floating shelves carry my full record weight without a hint of sag. The 3-inch walnut was worth every dollar of the upgrade.
